The museum owes its wonderful collection to the generosity of the local community. If you would like to donate any item to the museum, there are a few things which need to be considered before you bring the object in to us.
Any item coming into the museum must conform to the Museum’s collecting policy. The Museum does not take in duplicate items, items in a poor condition, and those we do not have the room or appropriate conditions to store. Potentially dangerous objects and those that could present a risk to Health & Safety will not be accepted.
Items may be taken in for our Main collection or for our Handling collection, where they are used for educational purposes. Any item taken in by the museum might not be put on permanent display. Items for our main collection must have a significance to St Neots or the surrounding villages. This simply means that the items must have been made or used in this area.
If after considering the above you have an object you would like to donate to the Museum, your first step is to contact us. Email Holly at assistant@stneotsmuseum.org.uk, with a description, photo, brief history and current location of the object. Please do not bring in any objects without contacting us first. When donating an object, it is important to provide as much detail as possible; even the smallest of details are useful and give the donation more importance. We will not accept items simply left at the Museum. If we think that your object may be appropriate to our collection, we will arrange an appointment so that we may take a look at it further. Please do not be offended if we are unable to take in your object. We simply cannot accept all offers. We will try to suggest other museums if we think that your object will be better suited to their collections.
