17/06/06 - re:action

St Neots Museum is involving local youth sports groups in a special summer project.

're:action' is giving young people an opportunity to develop their creative skills whilst bringing the museum's archive of sport photography bang up-to-date.

Organisations involved are St Neots Rowing Club, the Colts Football Association, the Hockey club and users of the towns fantastic new skate park.

Gilly Vose, co-ordinator of the project for the museum said: "The museum wished to provide a forum for positively promoting young people and sport in the town and to give participants a fun way of creating an important record for future generations. The project will culminate in an exciting performance combining images and sound and an exhibition at the museum that will capture each group's spirit and skill".

Artist and award-winning photographer Karen Harvey has been commissioned to capture images and sound at local sporting events - including the clubs' social events - and to bring out the young sportsmen and women's creative side.

She said: "All the young people I've met have been great and there are some very talented photographers amongst them! I'm really enjoying being a part of such an interesting and fun project. Unfortunately there just isn't time to visit all St Neots' sports clubs, but people can get involved by logging onto the project web site at www.myspace.com/stneots or contacting me at info@karen-harvey.co.uk"

're:action' forms part of the three-year Huntingdonshire Heritage Programme, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Cambridgeshire County Council, Huntingdonshire District Council and other local heritage organisations.

For more information and press photo-opportunities contact Gilly Vose, Outreach Officer, Huntingdonshire Heritage Programme, on 01480 375819 or Karen Harvey on 07971 849 355.

2/07/05 - 29/10/05 - St. Neots at War 1939 - 1945
Summer and autumn mark the 60th aniversary of the end of World War 2, and St Neots Museum will be putting together a new exhibition about wartime life in and around St. Neots. The exhibition will focus on the home front and everyday life in our area, but will also outline the military course of the war and the part played by the local people in the forces fighting Hitler. Topics we hope to cover include; food and rationing, schooldays, the home guard, local air bases, entertainment, land army girls, american forces, the power station, evacuees, the ARP, etc.

We are just starting to interview a number of local people about their memories of the war. If you remember the war in St. Neots or know of someone who does please let us know. We realize that many people may only recall the war as children, but we are still very interested in collecting these memories, which we think will be of great interest to children today as well as adults.

If you have any memories of WWII, or objects and photographs, please get in touch with Liz Davies at St Neots Museum on 01480 388921 or 01480 214163.

18/09/05 - Living History Day
2005 is the 10th anniversary of the opening of St Neots Museum and the Museum will be celebrating with a lively program of events, exhibitions and activities. These will celebrate all that the museum has achieved in the last 10 years and encourage even more local people to visit the museum and learn more about our local heritage.

Our major event will be a living history day when visitors can travel back in time and meet a fascinating variety of people from St neots past, including celts, Romans, Anglo Saxons, Vikings, Medieval Musicans, civil war soldiers, Georgian soldiers, Victorians and members of the home guard from world war II. This promises to be fascinating and fun filled day with lots of things to do and demonstrations to watch, put the date in your diary now!
